Focus and Scope

"Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" (alternative English name "Bulletin of Moscow Society of Naturalists. Biological Series") is published six times a year. It accepts original papers on zoology, botany, general issues of nature conservation and the history of biology, as well as reviews of new publications in biology, chronicle of scientific events, biographical sketches in the sections "Jubilees" and "Lost of Science". A separate section "Floristic notes" is devoted to the floristic novelties of various regions.

Articles are published free of charge on the basis of the decision by the editorial board after the peer review. The main language of the journal is Russian, papers in English are also acceptable as well as papers in French and German with extensive English abstracts.

Peer Review Process

Manuscript Submission

The managing editor is registering a manuscript upon receipt of the electronic version and notifying the authors. Once a month, the managing editor sends the set of new manuscripts to the members of the Editorial Board of the relevant profile to discuss potential reviewers for each paper.

Peer Review Process

Papers of multidiscipline content are being sent to two or three reviewers, either papers of narrow profile or a final set of floristic notes to a single reviewer. Either contradictory papers, papers criticised by at least one reviewer or papers advised to be rejected are sent to an additional review and discussed thoroughly by the Editorial Board. Having agreed to review a manuscript, a reviewer should provide a review within one month, or to notify the managing editor on the postponement of a review. If there is no reviewer's reply, the managing editor sends a paper to another reviewer.

The reviewer is sending the respond to the managing editor, who directs the review and a decision of the Editorial Board to the authors.

Revision Of Manuscripts After Review

The authors are obliged to take into account all comments of the reviewers and give a justification why some issues could not be fully accepted or justified. The reviewers of the journal are highly esteemed experts on various fields of biology, whose opinion are valuable and respected by the Editorial Board. Manuscripts caused serious disagreements during the review process are generally not accepted. The authors who are not taking into account the opinion of the reviewers, receives the manuscripts back for additional revision. The manuscript is not accepted in the case of a repeated disregard for the opinion of the reviewers.

 

Open Access Policy

The journal provides full open access to its content following the principles—free public access to the results of science research contributes to sharing of global knowledge.

 

On appendices

The journal "Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" has no appendixes, additional issues or other irregular satellite publications.

 

List of Higher Attestation Commission

The journal is indexed in the "List of peer-reviewed scientific journals, where main results of dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Sciences and for the degree of Doctor of Science should be published" (so called, ВАК list) as a journal indexed in the international databases.

Web of Science

"Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" is one of the few Russian journals in biology indexed in five products of "Thomson Reuters" in "Web of Science" platform (Russian Science Citation Index, BIOSIS Previews, BIOSIS Citation Index, Biological Abstracts, Zoological Record). One could find the archive of metadata of the journal papers which has various depth in each product of "Thomson Reuters" (ca. 9,000 papers in total).

The official name of the journal used in "Web of Science" is "Byulleten 'Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii". Access to "Web of Science" is limited by subscription options of a particular institution.

The journal is not yet included into the "Web of Science Core Collection" and has no official impact factor.

Scopus

In 2017, the journal is applying for indexing in the "Scopus" (operated by "Elsevier").

Russian Science Citation Index (elibrary.ru)

"Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" is one of the most cited journals in elibrary.ru (РИНЦ) which publishes results of descriptive biological research. The indicators are as follows:

- a two-year impact factor (РИНЦ) without self-citation (2014) – 0.374;

- a five-year impact factor (РИНЦ) without self-citation (2014) – 0.306;

- the total number of citations of the journal in РИНЦ – 16378.

As a result of the successful indexing of the journal in РИНЦ, "Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" was selected among other 652 journals for indexing in the Russian Science Citation Index within the "Web of Science" platform.

 

 

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

General Issues

The "Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii" strictly follows the scientific publication ethics described below. These key principles govern the relations between the participants of publication process, i.e. (1) Editorial Board members, (2) authors, and (3) peer reviewers. Violations of ethics, including the issues not described below, are fully considered by the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board members discuss and adopt a common position on the facts of violation of scientific publication ethics.

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board members are working under the journal on volunteer basis with no remuneration.
The Editorial Board General evaluates the papers according to scope of the journal, scientific novelty of the papers and significance of the work. These are the key points for decisions on acceptance of manuscripts. Members of the Editorial Board evaluate the manuscript regardless of race, gender, nationality, place of origin, religion, social status, sexual orientation or political preferences of the authors. Unpublished data from the manuscripts submitted to the journal are not used by the members of the Editorial Board for personal purposes and not passed to third parties. Information or ideas obtained during the editing left confidential.
The Editorial Board does not accept manuscripts for publication, if there is a reason to believe that they contain plagiarism.

Peer Reviewers

Reviewers of the journal are acting free of charge.
A reviewer provides scientific expertise of manuscripts. A reviewer reserves the right to remain anonymous.
A manuscript received for peer review is regarded to be a confidential document which can not be transferred for review or discussion of the third parties unauthorized by the Editorial Board. The reviewer is required to give an objective assessment of the results and conclusions. Personal criticism of the authors is not acceptable. Unpublished data from submitted manuscripts should not be used for personal purposes by a reviewer. A reviewer who either does not have the highest possible qualification to evaluate the manuscript, or has a conflict of interests with either the author or his institution should inform the Editorial Board and ask to exclude him from the peer review process.

Authors

Authors are acting free of charge. The publication fee is not charged, honoraria are not paid.
An author (authors) has no right to submit a manuscript which has been submitted to another journal or somewhere else before, and a manuscript which has already been published in other journals, books, or collective monographs.
By submitting an article, a corresponding author confirms that all co-authors have read the final version of the manuscript and agree with its publication in the journal "Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii".
An author understands that he bears a personal responsibility for the novelty and validity of the results of the presented research. Authors should provide proven results of their research—knowingly false or fraudulent statements are unacceptable. Authors should ensure that the results of the study are completely original. Borrowed fragments or statements should be accompanied with an obligatory reference on the author and source. Excessive borrowing and plagiarism in any form, including either direct and indirect quotations, or paraphrasing or assignment of rights to the results of others, are unacceptable.
The article should be submitted with references that have contributed the research. All persons who have made a significant contribution to the study should be acknowledged as co-authors. Persons who were not involved in the study directly should not be listed as co-authors.
If the authors find significant errors or extensive inaccuracies in the article on any stage of publication process or after its publication, he should notify the Editorial Board as soon as possible.
