On the Biological Nature of Outbreaks of Phytophagous Insects (on Example of Gypsy Moth Lymantria dispar (L.) (Lepidoptera, Lymantriidae))

In 1995–2018 in birch stands in the south of Sverdlovsk region life tables of the gypsy moth were constructed every year. For construction of gypsy moth life tables 2 methods were used. On a basis of analysis of life tables conclusion is drawn that population density of the pest is determined completely by interaction between population of insect and population of host plant. Consequently theory of population dynamics of gypsy moth can be only a monofactorial one. Data obtained in the course of investigation show that gypsy moth outbreaks (and the other species of phytophagous insects of Eurasia) have coevolutionory nature.
