On the establishment of the type locality of the woodlouse species Desertoniscus schmalfussi Kashani et Allspach, 2012 (Isopoda: Oniscidea)

The recently described terrestrial isopod Desertoniscus schmalfussi Kashani et Allspach, 2012, found in the collection of the Senckenberg Museum (Frankfurt, Germany), did not have an exact indication of its type locality, as the description only cites the 100-year-old label with the name of a village in Southern Turkestan. Due to the fact that the toponyms have been changed multiple times since then, the authors of the description were unable to determine the exact location. We analyzed historical documents regarding the expedition of the collector, K. Küchler, in the Emirate of Bukhara, and found that the collection site of the type specimens is currently located near the village of Hakimi, near Hakimi and Mujiharf rivers, Nurobod district, Tajikistan (approximately 80 km east of Dushanbe, with coordinates 38.81° N, 69.86° E). This makes it possible to collect fresh material for this recently described but long-collected species.
