We studied two common species of Drosera (D. rotundifolia L. and D. anglica Huds.) and their spontaneous hybrid D. × obovata Mert. et W.D.J. Koch. The cymes of the studied species differ by the lateral flower bract being shifted onto the axillary axis, and the terminal flower adhering to the lateral axis. The duration of the anthesis depends on the sequential development of flowers in the in- florescence and on either sylleptic or proleptic formation of lateral flowering axes. Flexible reaction of sundews to intensity of peatmoss growth is a result of either presence or absence of a rosette at the base of a perennating shoot, and of the length of sylleptic vegetative shoots. In contrast to its parental species, D. ×obovata is prone to vegetative growth and propagation due to its long sylleptic shoots.

Main habitats of this antelope in the reserve are desert and tugai which is a kind of riparian forest of desert natural zone. At the paths and near them numerous gatherings of excrements (toilets) were observed which are stamped with hooves and filled with excrements areas about the size of 50×100 cm. Enhanced vegetation forms peripheral border clearly visible from a distance of many tens of meters. On the route of 28 km 42 antelope toilets were observed, where 19 species of plants from 11 families vegetate. Whole structure, including stamped and cleared spot, gathering of excre- ments, border of bright green plants and smell of dung left by numerous animals during long time is a good and easy-to-see attractor. There is no reason now to believe that plants tending to the gazelle toilets more “nitrogen-philous” compared with other species, growing in the reserve. The great majority of plants marked at the toilets are annuals, spring ephemer- als. All these species are usual, and some of them are common plants, including plants forming aspects of typical flat and lowland ephemeral-ephemeroid southern deserts of Central Asia.

The post The vegetation on the signaling points of goitred gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa) first appeared on Bulletin of Moscow Society of Naturalists.

A study conducted in 2005 to 2011 in a mountain taiga of the Chelyabinsk area and some adjacent territories of Republic Bashkortostan. 11 lakes, 2 water basins, more than 50 rivers and streams are surveyed. The otter occupies only the mountain rivers and doesn’t meet at all on lakes and water ba- sins. The insignificant quantity of the large rivers, their small extent, low water-level, and also rocky coast of many rivers are natural factors constraining number of an otter in the Chelyabinsk area. The increase of the beaver’s number was observed in recent years. Beaver ponds create additional favor- able conditions for moving of an otter and settling of the small rivers by it and streams, level negative consequences of shallow and droughty seasons and are one of the major conditions causing an abun- dance of an otter in region. Otters settled on small rivers where it has not been noted before owing to the beaver’s ponds.

The survival of native herbs in abandoned forest nursery in Moscow Oblast is discussed. Only 11 species out of 60 survived since 1970s. The places of the former cultivation were studied along with the native habitats of the same species. The plantations of Anemone nemorosa L. and Trollius europaeus L. appeared to be the most successful. Pulmonaria obscura Dumort. usually dies off after some years without care. Corydalis cava (L.) Schweigg. et Koerte, Matteuccia struthiopteris (L.) Todaro and Delphinium elatum L. survived but are not abundant in the former plantations.
