Digital reconstruction of D.P. Syreyshchikov portraits collection

The Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University has prepared a digital catalog of the core of the portrait collection of D.P. Syreyshchikov. This collection is stored in the library of the Department of Geobotany at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University. About 700 portraits of botanists and other naturalists depicted in lithographs, book and magazine pages, photos and engravings have been digitized and identifi ed. During the investigation of this collection rare portraits and original photos of the “visit-portraits” and “cabinet-portraits” of L.F. Gruner, S.I. Rostovtsev, Y.S. Medvedev, S.I. Korzhinsky, K.I. Meyer, V.A. Monyushko and other researchers were revealed, as well as a portrait of D.P. Syreyshchikov at a young age. A number of portraits were attributed according to their origin and authorship. Also, the program has been created for viewing digitized portraits with a web interface with the ability to supplement them with a brief text reference about portraits and depicted persons.
