KPABG Herbarium of Vascular Plants: about the past and present

In the herbarium of the N.A. Avrorin Polar-Alpine Botanical GardenInstitute Kola SC RAS (KPABG) presents the largest collection of the vascular plants of Murmansk Region, original specimens of plant introduction expeditions to different regions of Russia and neighboring countries and documentation of the cultivation of native and alien species obtained during introduction experiments. In 2015, the KPABG herbarium was transported from the territory of the botanical garden in Kirovsk Town to Akademorodok area in Apatity Town. Currently, the collection is being actively replenished by new specimens, especially alien species from Murmansk Region. A new stage of herbarium arrangement has begun and involved the formation of four departments: Herbarium Murmanicum, Herbarium Ontogeneticum, Herbarium Generale and Planta culta. Complete barcoding of the Herbarium Murmanicum was carried out (47,250 specimens). A new storage system was installed to accommodate all herbarium funds and a Photoscan D1 herbarium scanner was purchased to create high-quality images of herbarium specimens.
