Monitoring of winter ornithofauna of the Yarorlyk State Reserve wetlands

In the winter periods of 1999–2025, 36 species of wetland birds were registered among the wetlands of the Yagorlyk State Reserve. Their maximum number (4422 persons) was noted in December 2020. Over 25–30 years, the number of species has increased 1.5 times, and the number – 4.6 times. A significant increase in the number and frequency of encounters was registered in 14 species: Great Cormorant, Great White Egret, White-tailed Eagle, Little Grebe, Mallard, Common Teal, Tufted Duck, Water Rail, Moorhen, Common Coot, Black-headed Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Bearded Tit and Reed Bunting. 13 species began to be registered in winter periods: Little Egret, Gray Heron, Graylag Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Garganey, Red-breasted Merganser, Goosander, Osprey, Marsh Harrier, White-tailed Eagle, Spotted Crake, Green Sandpiper and Common Snipe. During the research period, 10 wetland bird species included in the Red Book of the Pridnestrovie were wintered in the reserve: Great Bittern, Great White Egret, Graylag Goose, Mute Swan, Ruddy Shelduck, Common Goldeneye, Redbreasted Merganser, Osprey, White-tailed Eagle and Spotted Crake. The wetlands of the Yagorlyk Reserve in warm winters remain one of the most attractive places for wetland birds in the Middle Dniester basin. The most numerous: Mallard, Coot and Great Cormorant, which are dominant. The protection regime in the reserve is one of the main positive factors that determine the accumulations of wetland birds in the autumnwinter time.
