Silver carp in the reservoirs of Central Russia

The article examines certain aspects of the biology of the silver carp, which allowed it to become a dominant species in reservoirs of various types in Central Russia in a relatively short period of time (the 90s of the twentieth century). The results of calculations of the dominance index and correlation analysis showed that the silver crucian occupies the highest occurrence in ichthyocenoses in riverbed ponds, overseas floodplain lakes, shallow cooling reservoirs of GRES and reservoirs of the Tula and Kursk regions. The silver crucian carp from reservoirs and watercourses of Central Russia is characterized by a high growth rate and early puberty. All the local crucian carp populations described in this work are bisexual, with a predominance of females in the middle age groups and a complete absence of males aged 7+. An adaptive feature of the biology of juvenile crucian carp is its wide range of temperature tolerance and the possibility of feeding in macrophyte thickets with low oxygen content, which contributes to a higher survival rate of this species and the maintenance of its populations at a consistently high level.
